CMC's Community Open House Highlights Historic Past
TAKE A MUSICAL JOURNEY BACK IN TIME THIS AUGUST
On Saturday afternoon, August 11, CMC celebrations the 100th Birthday of our building, the venerable Francis Street Firehouse. Free and fun events include:
- try your hand at playing an instrument or two
- enjoy live muisc circa 1912
- view archival photos and memorabilia
- watch to a presentation about the building's history by author/historian Don Nelson
- take a guided tour of the building
- have some refreshments, including birthday cake!
- climb on a real fire truck or rock wall
- meet Portland Fire Co. #25
In addition, you can
- shop for an instrument - including used violins, cellos, and pianos (details soon)
- find bargains and vintage titles in our sheet music sale
- buy a commemorative t-shirt
Join the party!
Build in 1912 for Portland Fire Co. No. 25 as for horse-drawn firefighting equipment, the Francis Street Firehouse was renovated in 1969 as the site for Portland Parks & Recreation’s Community Music Center, which continues programs there to this day.
